New Pattern – Finding my Sew-Jo!

I really like trying out new patterns. I don’t get a lot of time for it, but I enjoy it when I get the chance. Right now I have a stack of over a dozen new bag patterns to try plus a plethora of clothing ones to sew up. I’ve promised myself more time to do personal sewing and this includes trying new patterns. While I haven’t been very good at sticking to my new schedule this month, I’m working towards it.

A few weeks ago¬† Swoon Patterns released their new free pattern “Heidi” – a super cute fold over clutch in two sizes.

Large & Small Heidi Fold Over Clutches

Large pocket in the back, too!
I decided to sew up both sizes when they were released to get myself back into the swing of sewing and get my sew-jo flowing. Oh man, I was not feeling it! I’ve been incredibly tired since returning after labour day and it’s only been in the last few days that I’ve started to perk up again. While it was really nice to make something new with some absolutely beautiful fabrics, it took WAY longer than anticipated to make them.

I’m pretty sure after taking 2 days to decide on fabric, it stayed half down for another 4-5 days.

I think the biggest thing I’ve noticed is that I want to be in bed. Early. None of this staying up past midnight sewing. My brain isn’t handling it, and since Jayne is home with me during the day and hasn’t napped since March, daytime sewing is out of the question about 90% of the time. When I do get the chance to sew during the day, I am way more focused and motivated. Something about sewing with natural light is absolutely lovely. So this week, we decided to put Jayne in a home daycare once a week. A friend of mine runs one and has space and was happy to take Jayne as her son is the same age (how we met). His first day is tomorrow and I cannot wait! With Jayne in daycare once a week it gives me two days to sew during the day (Dahl is off on Mondays) and I won’t feel like I need to burn the midnight oil sewing up a storm at night.

The past 4 weeks have brought about a lot of changes around here: Henry starting school, business really picking up after FanExpo and the realization that neither Dahl nor I want him working as much as he has been. It’s exhausting for both of us and we are now working towards ways, both big and small – starting with small, that will make things easier on both of us and better for our little family.

We seem to be ever-evolving over here – schedules and routines seem to be fluid and the moment we finally get into a groove, it’s changed again! We keep you on your toes over here, that’s for sure! It feels like we are headed towards something that will really work for us, which is a really fantastic feeling!

So, back to those new clutches, I’m giving them away! Yup, I’m doing a giveaway because, quite frankly, I love giveaways. So, you can head on over to my Facebook page and my Instagram account to enter (I’ll draw one name from each). The draw will happen on Monday, October 3rd at 12pm so be sure to enter before then!
