2016 Goals Update

Way back in January, I laid out some goals for the year. Within a few months, most were tossed out the door as that’s just what happens. After the craziness of the summer, I’m revisiting and reevaluating the goals to see what I can salvage for the rest of the year!

2016 Goals

1) Complete 2 Workout Programs
2) Run Firefighters 10 Mile in May
3) Run Half Marathon (even just my own)
4) Walk 70 000 steps/week
5) Read 2 books/month (updated to 26 total)
6) Try 1 new thing with the boys each month
7) Set up a cleaning schedule for weekly/monthly tasks
8) Drink more water
9) Work on my work/life/family balance
10) Spend more time in the present.

Hmm… Okay, I guess it’s not actually too bad. The running ones definitely didn’t happen. I haven’t done much running this year, and the only consistent running I’ve managed has been on vacation and used mostly as a chance to get out and clear my head. While I don’t think I’ll be getting up to 10 or 13 miles by the end of the year, I’m hoping to get my shoes back on and maybe clock a 10km by the end of the year. I’m really rusty. I’m basically starting from scratch again.

It hasn’t all been a bust! In June I completed the Conquer the Fort which is a 7km trail and obstacle race. I was pretty impressed with everything I managed to complete and it was a lot of fun!

The steps have also been a bust. I need to charge up my Fitbit and get back into using it daily. It’s nice to know how much (or how little) I’m actually moving. My steps may not be high, but man, I know my floors are. Having a 3 story + a basement house makes for a lot of running up and down stairs.

Fitness wise, it hasn’t been a complete bust of  a year (even though it feels like it right now!). I did complete 2 new programs – 21 Day Fix Extreme and Hammer & Chisel. I LOVED Hammer & Chisel and plan to do it again in January. I also did a round of classic 21 Day Fix and right now I’m back into Piyo and working on mixing in some Beast (for now just some added weight routines). I spent the middle 6 months feeling really low and blah and not being able to stick to anything. I’m really trying to focus now and retrain my body. It’s a slow process, but I’m working on it.

And now onto my books. I was kicking ass (and taking names) for the first 3 months. Then I left for a trip and never really got back into it! I have read 14/26 I set as a goal this year and I think I can do it. It’s 12 more in three months so if I can buckle down, choose some good books that get me back into reading I should be fine. I’m almost done my 15th and have a few more picked out so if one doesn’t click right away I can move on quickly, instead of dwelling on it for a few weeks.

For the rest: water has been okay, but could DEFINITELY be better. I need to start slow and work my way up to getting the appropriate amount. New things with the boys? We’ve done some fun new things this year: trip to Arizona and Halifax brought about some really fun new adventures for them. Work/Life/Family balance?! Ugh, still working on that one! Cleaning?! I wish! I REALLY need to get going with that, My mum is coming up in a few weeks so I’ll get her to help me figure some stuff out and get a head start on some fall cleaning.

So, looking at everything like this, I guess it hasn’t been too bad. But could definitely use improvement. So, it’s now October 2nd and here are my revised goals for the rest of the year:

1) Finish Piyo (with some kind of weights – Beast or otherwise)
2) Get back into running and complete a personal 10km
3) Drink more water. Lots more water!
4) Charge the flippin’ Fitbit and start using it again!
5) Read 12 books to complete the challenge
6) Do a little bit of organizing – maybe just the living/dining room and hall dresser.
7) Work towards a better work/life/family balance.

Alright, so with 3 months left, let’s see if I can keep this up. Nothing here is huge and unmanageable it’s just going to take some dedication and focus. I’m sure I can do this…. right?!
